Message Series: Momentum
UPC is engaged in a campaign called Momentum, the goal of which is to create a culture of stewardship in our church. Through sermons, Sunday School curricula, and Financial Peace University, Momentum is our way of developing a new definition of "normal." We believe it is abnormal to be in debt up to our eyeballs, to live by the seat of our pants instead of by a budget, and to spend money we don't have on things we don't need. In this 5-week series of messages, Mike Osborne describes what good stewardship looks like: 1) Being content instead of covetous; 2) Being a saver instead of a spender; 3) Being a manager instead of a master of God's money; 4) Being sacrificial instead of selfish; and 5) Being committed instead of careless.

Matthew 16:24-28
- Series: Momentum
In his final "Momentum" message on stewardship, Pastor Mike Osborne takes you to Matthew 16 where Jesus calls his followers to deny themselves. There is much misunderstanding about the meaning of this call. Does it mean the Christian is supposed to empty himself of all desires? Does it mean the Christian life is one of drudgery and no enjoyment? Mike explains that self-denial consists of at least two things - one negative and one positive. At the end of this message, the congregation reads aloud a Declaration of Financial Peace. Go here in order to read the six declarations that summarize the entire Momentum sermon series.

Exodus 35:30 - 36:7
- Series: Momentum
The fourth message in UPC's "Momentum" series explores the motivation for giving. In Exodus 35-40, the people of Israel give their time, talents, and treasure to construct the tabernacle. What explains their overwhelming generosity? What will stir your heart to give sacrificially and willingly? Not guilt, but grace.

Deuteronomy 8:10-18
- Series: Momentum
It's so easy to forget God & so difficult to remember all He has done for us in our past. When we forget God, we become insecure during tough times and prideful during good times. Moses reminds both the Israelites of his day & us today to reflect upon all of God's provision in the past. As we remember that God is the owner of all things, it will inspire us to live more for Jesus in our present and future lives.

Philipppians 4:10-20
- Series: Momentum
We live in the most "marketed-to" culture in history. Our country is drowning in a sea of debt thanks to unbridled spending. Commercial messages fill our TV screens promising that this product or that experience will be the end of our troubles. In such a consumer-driven, debt-drenched world, is it possible to be truly content? Mike Osborne says yes, based on Philippians 4:10-20. Listen to what the Apostle Paul, writing from prison, discovered about contentment and see how it applies to you.
