1 Kings 18:30-39
- Series: Guest Speaker
Dr. Peter Jones, Executive Director and founder of truthXchange, delivered this sermon at UPC on February 22.
Speaking from 1 Kings 18, Jones told the story of the prophet Elijah’s challenge to King Ahab and the prophets of Baal.
The story shows not only Elijah’s bold example of heroism in the face of paganism, but also our need of a greater Hero if we are going to speak truth to a culture limping between two opinions. On Calvary, God’s fire came down on the innocent Victim, that we might be set free from wrath and emboldened to love.

In this lecture, Dr. Peter Jones, Director of truthXchange, analyzes the cultural revolution that began in the 1960s and continues to change the world today. He shows that there are two competing and mutually exclusive worldviews: monism and theism. And he reminds Christians that while we must not nostalgically try to “reclaim America,” we must also not be silent while the rest of society worships and serves created things rather than the Creator. A question-and-answer period follows the lecture.
