What We Believe
University Presbyterian Church is a community of caring people who have discovered that true fulfillment in life is found only in a loving, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
We believe that the answers to life's questions are found in God's Word, the Bible. The Bible is our only infallible authority regarding what we are to believe and how we are to live. The Bible teaches us that men and women were created in the image of God, but rebelled against God by breaking His law. Because of this rebellion, fellowship was broken.
Even though God is a loving God who desires fellowship with His people, He is also a just and holy God who cannot let sin go unpunished. Therefore, God chose to send His only Son, Jesus Christ to satisfy the demand of the law (i.e. perfection) and the judgment of sin (i.e. death) by living a life of guiltless perfection and then suffering death on the cross.
By trusting in Jesus Christ, men and women reject their self-righteous efforts to please God and trust instead that Jesus' righteousness is credited to their account. Likewise, the penalty of sin of which we experience the life-changing power of God's spirit living inside of us creating a new heart that is yielded to Jesus Christ as Lord
If these truths have become your conviction of belief, we invite you to express them as a prayer of faith to God right now:
Lord Jesus Christ, I know that You created me for Your glory and honor. I confess that I have rebelled against You and sinned by choosing to live my life for my own glory and honor. I now turn from myself and receive Your perfect gift of righteousness through Your perfect life and death on the cross. Thank you for forgiving my sin and cleaning me from all unrighteousness. Send Your Holy Spirit to indwell my heart and take all that I am and use it for Your glory and honor as Lord of my life. Amen.
