L.I.F.E. Group Ministry
What Are LIFE Groups?
LIFE Groups are our way of declaring war on loneliness and isolation
at UPC. LIFE Groups are small groups of roughly 5-12 people who
commit to God and one another for a period of time in order to
care for and equip one another for spiritual maturity.
LIFE Groups have a leader (or leader couple), a leader-in-training,
normally meet weekly, and are committed to the practice of four
things:
L – Learning (growing in understanding
and applying the Word of God to all of life)
I – Intercessory prayer (praying for
one another, the church, and the world)
F – Friendship (growing deeper in love and
care for one another)
E – Extension (reaching out in service to
the church and community)
Why LIFE Groups?
The purpose of our LIFE Groups ministry is to ensure that every member of UPC has a loving, caring family of friends to help him or her grow into a fully devoted follower of Christ.
We believe that people grow best in community. Therefore, we view LIFE Groups as the vital spiritual and emotional centers of UPC, through which people are incorporated into the life of the church, shepherded, loved, discipled, and strengthened in the faith.
What Do LIFE Groups Study?
LIFE Group members study a variety of topics using a curriculum focused on "Ten Keys to Spiritual Transformation." The Ten Keys are specific growth objectives identified by the pastors and elders of UPC as characteristics of spiritual maturity. As someone progresses toward these objectives, he or she is developing a heart for God, a head for God's truth, and hands that serve God's kingdom. In turn he or she is helping UPC become better equipped to impact her world for Jesus Christ.
