Can You Contribute to Our 9/11 Service?

Sunday, September 11, is the 10th anniversary of the 2001 World Trade Center tragedy. UPC will note the anniversary with a special service of worship and lament. You may be able to contribute to an exhibit of art for the occasion.
In order to appeal to all the senses we want to feature the works of local artists around our Worship Center that Sunday. We'd like photography, paintings, sculpture, drawings, poetry - anything that touches on the themes of 9/11. We are not looking for patriotic, flag-waving art, but rather art that expresses the themes of sadness, repentance, loss, community, etc., with some kind of visual connection to the loss of the World Trade Center.
Art pieces need to be brought to the Worship Center on or before Saturday, Sept. 10, so they can be appropriately exhibited. I'm envisioning people seeing art as they enter the foyer and throughout our sanctuary as we worship. After the service, people will be able to walk about and view the pieces up close. This is something to which our children and young people should feel encouraged to contribute.
If you have questions or would like to be involved, get in touch either with me or David Piedt our worship director (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)). By the way, artists do not have to attend UPC. I've been inviting members of the local arts community to exhibit their work.

I love that you are doing this. It’s a testimony to Mike Osbourne’s heart and wonderful leadership. Lament is an important part of the biblical narrative, and its something we don’t do often because we’re uncomfortable with themes of sorrow and sadness. I will pray for your time of lament and remembrance…
