Where are we going
Currently, University Presbyterian Church is in the midst of developing a strategic plan for the future. Built upon some preliminary thinking known as "Vision '13," our new strategic plan will look five, ten, and twenty or more years down the road for UPC. It will identify such things as:
- The primary needs of our church and community
- Ministry objectives
- Resources
- Roadblocks
- Short-, mid-, and long-range priorities going forward
- Action plans for seeing our vision become a reality.
This year's ministry focus is on discipleship. Our main goal for 2009-2010 is to implement a simple process for helping people grow to maturity and reach out to others.
Jesus left us with very clear directions: To make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20). The way UPC does discipleship is through D-Groups. D-Groups are small groups of 2-4 men or women who meet weekly for the purpose of learning, sharing, praying, and being accountable to each other. The goals of a D-Group are transformation and multiplication. Each D-Group is led by a discipler. Groups use two workbooks: a 9-week foundational course called The Gospel Centered Life, and a 6-month course called Discipleship Essentials. These are the tools of discipleship. But the essence of discipleship at UPC is the life-on-life relationship between discipler and disciple.
